"Lisière" is the French word for "Edge".
A frontier marks the limit between two spaces. A threshold is a gateway between them.
The edge is something else, a third space, not exactly the first one, nor the second. It separates spaces whilst joining them.
However the edge is not a destination. One doesn’t travel « to the edge » on purpose. At best one crosses it, often without noticing.
It is a place of transition, its geography is ever-changing, and most of all it is a fertile place, where things are born and grow.
